Muslim in Europe

[Tulisan di FB bertarikh 17 November 2015]

Hanover pula.

Post Paris.

Post Charlie Hebdo.

Current refugee crisis.

Your state of awareness dramatically increased when you're living in Europe as a Muslim.
That somewhat uncomfortable feeling that lingers around.

More so when you're easy to be spotted as a Muslim. *because of headscarf.

More so when you spend most of your time alone since you live alone and little opportunity to meet other Malaysians to hang out with.

More so whenever you went to bookshops, take a look at the politics shelves, and there they are, a number of books about Islam with nothing positive about Islam be it the content, the writings on the back of the book, and of course, the title itself. And with the current state of matters, I noticed that these books are normally located at eye-level position or at special display sections.

More so when you pick up a magazine at some random train station, which on the cover page of it is stated the title Islam. (*imagine sort of like a special edition of Nat Geo on a specific topic.), that is supposedly to be a somewhat an introduction to Islam. And at the beginning, there would be those 5 basic pillars of Islam and such similar stuffs. And what about at the very end? There was once, an article about oppression of women, the other was with a title: 'Islam: Glaube, Gewalt und Gefahr' = Islam: Belief, Violence and Danger. Notice what kind of a conclusion the publishers wanted the readers to make? I've observed this several times.

More so when a newspaper that you grew fond to read, which is the weekly newspaper Die Zeit, because of its great journalism, interesting and well written articles about a wide range of topics and issues. And once, quite recently, I've come across a section where two whole pages are dedicated for a section about Islam and Prophet Muhammad. I can't really understand everything but it was stated that the article was written by a man who's a son of an Imam, and while growing up, made his researches and come to a conclusion that Islam is an evil religion. There's one part that I remembered he said that the way Prophet Muhammad conducted wars and led the muslim Brotherhood was mafia-like.

And other personal experience, there was once while I was walking from my house to the train station carrying a bag containing a chess set(it was quite long and you held it like you would when you're carrying a racket bag right on your shoulder), and some guy suddenly make a joke to you saying: "Please don't shoot me," while laughing.

So, tell me what would you, if you're in my shoes, would feel?

And I too, am informed of other similar incidents experienced by other Malaysian friends.
